Airspan buys Cambium’s PMP 450 and PTP radios out of administration
More than 135 Cambium staff move to the Texas-based buyer, including UK research teams. The enterprise Wi-Fi and switching lines stay with the administrators
- Buyers: Airspan Communications Limited for the UK business; certain US assets to Airspan Networks Inc. by bill of sale
- cnMaestro Cloud: first promised through 1 October, then extended
- Airspan first-half 2026 revenue: $70m (£52.9m), up 112%, by its own account
- Airspan revenue, 12 months to June 2026: $152m (£114.8m), by its own account
Businesses running Cambium point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links now have a new owner for the roadmap, which looks like the best outcome an administration could offer. Expect support contracts, pricing and distribution terms to be reissued rather than carried over. The risk sits with enterprise Wi-Fi and switching estates: with no buyer yet for those lines, customers should plan a migration and confirm the cloud management end date before renewing anything.
“We are fully committed to supporting the customers and partners who have invested in these products.”Glenn Laxdal, chief executive, Airspan
Airspan has bought several of Cambium Networks’ fixed wireless broadband and defense product lines from the UK company’s administrators. The two sides signed a business sale agreement on 22 September, and Airspan announced the deal on 23 September without disclosing terms.
According to a statement from Cambium in administration, the portfolio covers the PMP 450 point-to-multipoint platform, the PTP 670, PTP 450i and PTP 700 point-to-point radios, 28GHz and 60GHz cnWave and cnReach. The LINKPlanner and cnHeat planning tools go with them, as does cnMaestro as it relates to those products. Airspan says the staff joining it include research and development teams in the UK, the US and India, plus sales and support people across four regions.
David Shambrook, Gordon Thomson, Joe Barry and James Woodhead of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory were appointed joint administrators of Cambium Networks Limited, the group’s main trading company, on 14 September. The appointment covers the UK entity only. Cambium’s first statement after the appointment said production of its Wi-Fi access points, Network Service Edge (NSE) devices and cnMatrix switches had stopped. Its 23 September update said the administrators are pursuing going-concern sales for the remaining business units and that cnMaestro Cloud support for the enterprise portfolio now runs through at least October 2026.
Airspan, based in Plano, Texas, has bought the wireless businesses of Corning and Jabil in the past and says it enters this deal from a position of financial strength.
