This policy explains what personal information VETTDD collects when you read the site, subscribe to our newsletter or contact us, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We have written it to be read, not skimmed past.

Who we are

What we collect and why

When you read the site. Our servers record basic technical information for every request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. We use it to run the site securely and to fix problems, and keep it for no longer than 30 days. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

Analytics, only if you agree. If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand which articles are read and how people find us. It collects information such as the pages you visit, roughly where you are (to city level) and the device you use. We don’t use it to identify you. It doesn’t load at all unless you agree, and you can change your mind at any time using ‘Cookie settings’ at the foot of every page. Our lawful basis is your consent.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we keep your email address to send you the VETTDD Briefing. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we delete your address when you unsubscribe. Our lawful basis is your consent.

Forms. When you pitch a story, contact us, request the media pack or nominate someone for the VETTDD 50, we keep what you send us so we can reply and act on it. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to you and running the publication. We keep these messages for up to two years, unless they lead to an ongoing working relationship.

VETTDD 50 nominations. A nomination includes information about the person being nominated: their name, role, company and why they were put forward. We use it only to run the VETTDD 50, and we keep nominations for up to two years so we can consider people again in future years. If you have been nominated and would rather not be considered, email privacy@vettdd.com and we will remove the nomination.

Cookies and similar technologies

• Your cookie choice: we store your cookie choice in your browser so we don’t ask again on every page. This is essential and always on.
• Analytics cookies: Google Analytics sets cookies beginning with ‘_ga’, and only after you accept analytics.
• Editor sign-in: people who edit VETTDD have a sign-in cookie. Readers never get this cookie.

We don’t currently use advertising cookies. If we introduce advertising that uses cookies, we will ask for your consent first and update this policy.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with the companies that help us run VETTDD, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only on our instructions:

• our website hosting, database and file storage providers
• Google, for analytics, if you have agreed to it
• our newsletter provider, when you subscribe
• our email provider, when we reply to you

Some of these providers are based outside the UK. Where your information is transferred abroad, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

• give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• correct information that is wrong
• delete your information
• restrict or object to how we use it
• give you your information in a portable format

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email privacy@vettdd.com and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the way we handle personal information changes, and change the date below when we do.
