Wrong · 0%the number of cores in a processor will arrive at 288 by the end of 2024Infrastructure & Telecoms · made Apr 2024 · due Dec 2024

What happened. No 288-core server CPU was available in 2024. A Jan 2025 ServeTheHome note shows Intel's 288-core Sierra Forest part still due in Q1 2025. The first broadly launched 288-core Xeon (Xeon 6+, Clearwater Forest) launched on 1 June 2026. AMD's densest 2024 part had 192 cores. This is a year call for 2024, and the 288-core CPU arrived in 2026, two years late. If the Sierra Forest 6900E is shown to have shipped in 2025, it becomes Half right (one year off). Wrong · 0%As more power is dedicated to AI, the share of worldwide electricity in the data center is rising to about 2% within a couple of yearsInfrastructure & Telecoms · made Mar 2024 · due Mar 2026

What happened. The IEA put data centres at about 1.5% of global electricity in 2024 (about 415 TWh), with an estimated 485 TWh in 2025, still about 1.5%. The Energy Institute's 2026 Statistical Review uses a broader method and put 2025 at 788 TWh, about 2%. On the IEA basis (the basis of his 'about 1%' 2008-2020 baseline), the share was about 1.5%, so the forecast was 33% too high. The Energy Institute's broader count gives about 2%, which would make it Right, so confidence is low. Sources: hannahritchie.substack.com, cryptobriefing.com.

Right · 100%We now expect server shipments of 11.4 million units for the full year of 2023, a decrease of 19% from 2022.Infrastructure & Telecoms · made Dec 2023 · due Dec 2023

What happened. Omdia preliminary data (March 2024) put 4Q23 shipments at 2.8-2.9 million, about half a million below its estimate; Le Monde Informatique (18 Mar 2024) reported Omdia full-year 2023 shipments of just under 11 million, down 22% on 2022. Actual taken as about 10.9 million. 11.4m against about 10.9m is 4.6% high, inside the 5% band, though only just; the 4Q23 shortfall nearly tipped it. Mostly right · 75%the semiconductor industry will experience an oversupplied environment in the next twelve to 24 monthsInfrastructure & Telecoms · made Aug 2022 · due Aug 2024

What happened. A broad chip glut followed. Gartner's first 2023 figures (16 Jan 2024) had semiconductor revenue down 11.1% and memory revenue down 37%. AI accelerators were the exception and stayed supply-constrained through 2023-24. Oversupply arrived inside the window across memory and most device types, as he said it would. AI GPUs and advanced packaging ran short, so the glut was not universal. Sources: gartner.com.
