GoCardless helps businesses collect and send payments straight from bank accounts instead of by card. Its main products are Direct Debit for subscriptions, instalments and invoices, Pay by Bank for instant one-off payments, and outbound payments to suppliers and customers. Add-ons use machine learning to retry failed payments on the best day (Success+) and to block fraudulent payers (Protect+). It connects to more than 350 business applications, including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and Salesforce.
The company was founded in London in 2011 by Hiroki Takeuchi, Matt Robinson and Tom Blomfield, and Takeuchi remains chief executive. It bought the open banking data firm Nordigen in 2022 and the payment services provider Nuapay in 2024, and reported revenue of £160.9m for the year to June 2025, up 22%. On 1 September 2026 the Dutch payments company Mollie completed its acquisition of GoCardless, which keeps its brand and London base.
GoCardless is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority as a payment institution. It launched Recurring Pay by Bank on the UK’s new account-to-account scheme in June 2026, counts Octopus Energy, JustGiving and Sage among its customers, and in September 2026 processed the UK’s first account-to-account payment set up by an AI agent, within the FCA’s AI Live Testing programme.
