PlannerPal raises £4.3m to wire AI into advisers’ core systems
The AI workflow platform for UK advice and wealth firms is moving from meeting notes to client data, and has taken its pitch into the mortgage market
- PlannerPal says more than 250 UK advice firms use the platform, including 20% of the UK’s top 20 wealth managers
- Firms using it are responsible for about £150bn of client assets, the company says
- Customers include Canaccord Wealth, ValidPath and Amber River
- It also connects to Intelliflo, Curo, Plannr, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and SharePoint
For advice, wealth and mortgage firms choosing AI, the buying test is shifting from what a note-taker records to what happens to that information afterward. Ask any supplier where its output lands in the back office, who signs off each update and how much rekeying it removes. For software founders selling into regulated sectors, the deal shows investors backing products that live inside the incumbent platforms customers already pay for.
“We don’t believe the answer is another disconnected AI tool sitting outside the core systems of the business. A firm’s AI and client data strategy need to work together.”Mark Whitcroft, chief executive and co-founder, PlannerPal
Mercia Ventures has led a £4.3m ($6m) investment in PlannerPal, which sells AI software to UK financial advisers and wealth managers, Mercia said on 7 October. Ada Ventures, the pre-seed lead in February 2024, put in more money, and fintech investors and angels joined the round.
PlannerPal started as a note-taker for advice meetings that also drafted the follow-up documents and filled in back-office records. It now wants to be the place where a firm’s client knowledge is gathered and reused, with advisers keeping control of each change.
That strategy depends on sitting inside the platforms advisers already use. According to the release, PlannerPal is the only AI partner chosen for the Iress Partnership, and advisers can open it inside Xplan with single sign-on. Mercia says the money will go on engineers and product staff, getting customers live and building out the client data tools.
Adam Lovell, investment director at Mercia Ventures, said advice firms had spent two years experimenting with AI, and that those now picking a long-term supplier want technology that works with their existing systems and client data.
PlannerPal has also moved into mortgages, signing Charles Cameron, which Mercia describes as one of the UK’s largest independent mortgage brokers. The company says brokers face many of the same data and compliance problems as wealth firms. That makes mortgages a natural second market for the product.
