Leadership

Blacks Solicitors is a full-service law firm with its head office at 29 King Street in Leeds and two London offices, at Kings Cross and Canary Wharf, open by appointment. It acts for businesses in corporate, commercial, real estate, banking, employment, planning and dispute work, and for individuals and families in private wealth, family, employment and property matters. Its sector work includes care homes, construction, dental and medical practices, energy, hotels, pharmacies, retail and telecoms.

Chris Allen, managing partner, has led the firm for almost two decades, according to the firm. Its website gives the team as 240 people, including 33 partners.

A record year in the accounts

Turnover rose 28% from £16.9m to £21.6m in the year to 31 March 2025, according to the LLP’s accounts at Companies House, and operating profit grew from £3.0m to £5.5m. The members’ report describes a series of records in turnover, profit and growth, with particular growth in residential conveyancing, employment, real estate and banking. Average staff, excluding the 12 members, rose from 193 to 214, including 114 fee earners and 25 trainees.

The firm says it has more than doubled in size over the past decade, from £11.5m in 2017 to £22.9m. To make room for the larger team it acquired the fourth and fifth floors of its King Street building, taking its Leeds space from 11,500 sq ft to 17,000 sq ft, with the move planned for summer 2026.

“This move is about more than just extra space,” Allen said when the move was announced in December 2025.

Recognition in Yorkshire

In October 2026 Blacks was named Law Firm of the Year: Medium at the Yorkshire Legal Awards. Its corporate and commercial, employment and leasehold enfranchisement teams were finalists, and associate solicitor Jack Dodd was shortlisted for Rising Star of the Year. In July 2026 the firm said Legal 500 had named it the most recommended law firm in Yorkshire, based on more than 9,000 client responses across the region.

For owner-managed businesses, landlords and families in West Yorkshire, the firm offers corporate, property and private client teams under one roof in central Leeds, with London offices for clients in the capital. The firm is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority under number 419628, and Blacks Solicitors LLP was incorporated at Companies House in October 2004.
