Leadership

Gilson Gray is a full-service law firm with property and financial management arms. Its lawyers advise businesses on banking, insolvency, corporate and commercial, employment, construction, licensing and immigration, and individuals on conveyancing, family law, wills, executries and personal injury. Alongside them, the group sells and lets property, handles new-build and development work, and offers investment, tax planning and pensions advice through Gilson Gray Financial Management. The firm was founded in 2014 and now lists nine offices: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Forfar, Perth, East Lothian, Lincoln and London.

One leader at the top

Glen Gilson is chairman and managing partner, and a designated member of the LLP alongside Derek Hamill. Companies House records Gilson as the person with significant control of Gilson Gray LLP. The leadership team also includes a group chief financial officer, a group HR director, a managing partner of the financial management business and a managing director of property services.

Turnover up a fifth in a year

Group turnover rose 21% from £32.0m to £38.7m in the year to 30 April 2025, according to the LLP’s consolidated accounts at Companies House. Operating profit grew from £6.0m to £6.9m. The group employed an average of 367 people, including members with contracts of employment, up from 351, and the LLP had an average of 31 members, up from 25.

Much of that growth has come through acquisitions. The firm bought Practical Legal Solutions in East Lothian in 2021 to strengthen its real estate work, added the Edinburgh practice MHD Law and its 17-person team in March 2024, and in May 2026 it expanded into Perth by acquiring Wyllie & Henderson, whose Market Chambers office became part of Gilson Gray. Goodwill on the group balance sheet stood at £11.0m at April 2025, according to the accounts.

In December 2025 the firm said it had topped the law firms in the UK Fast Growth Index 2025 and ranked 15th among all professional services businesses. “We are immensely proud to be recognised as the fastest-growing law firm in the UK,” Gilson said at the time. The firm said it then employed close to 500 people across the group.
