Morton Fraser MacRoberts, known as MFMac, is a commercial and private client law firm with offices at Haymarket Square in Edinburgh and York Street in Glasgow. It was formed in 2023 by the merger of Morton Fraser and MacRoberts, and its roots run back to 1829, when Charles Morton founded Greig & Morton WS in Edinburgh, and to 1861, when Thomas MacRobert set up his practice. The firm says it has more than 250 lawyers. Its sector teams cover infrastructure and capital projects, real estate, energy and renewables, the public sector, manufacturing, media and technology, and healthcare and life sciences.
Run by a chief executive
Chris Harte is chief executive officer and Neil Kennedy is chief operating officer and a partner. Both are among eight designated members of the LLP, which also has an executive committee and a managing board. In May 2026 the firm added a chief people officer to its leadership team.
Annualized growth after a shorter year
The firm moved its year end from April to March. Turnover was £49.5m for the 11 months to 31 March 2026, matching the full 12 months to April 2025, which the members’ report describes as annualized revenue growth of 9% with a 10% rise in profits, according to the LLP’s accounts at Companies House. Profit before members’ remuneration was £19.2m. The average number of staff, excluding members, rose from 352 to 372, and the firm paid a firm-wide bonus equivalent to 6% of salary.
The same report lists the recognition behind those numbers. Chambers UK named MFMac Firm of the Year – Scotland at its awards in November 2025. In The Legal 500’s client recommendation research, based on net promoter scores from nearly 9,000 clients in Scotland, the firm ranked second among Scottish law firms, according to the firm. Best Companies placed it in its top 10 Best Companies to Work For in Scotland and its top 10 Best Law Firms to Work For.
