Muckle is a commercial law firm for businesses and private clients in the North East and Cumbria. It works from its Newcastle head office at Time Central on Gallowgate and from offices in Cumbria and Teesside. Its teams cover corporate, real estate, commercial, construction, banking, agriculture, estates and rural property, private client, sports, education and charity, and commercial debt recovery.
Anthony (Ant) Evans is managing partner and signed the firm’s latest accounts as a designated member. Muckle LLP was incorporated at Companies House in 2005.
A fifth year of growth
The LLP’s accounts for the year to 31 March 2026, filed at Companies House on 7 October 2026, show turnover of £20.6m, up from £19.1m, and describe a fifth consecutive year of higher turnover and net profit. The members’ report says the firm met the targets of its five-year plan, with average growth of just under 9% a year, and has begun a new five-year strategy.
The average number of employees, excluding members, rose from 169 to 181: 112 fee earners and 69 support staff. The members’ report says the firm has added the equivalent of 44 people in five years, including eight equity partners, and made a record 10 promotions in the year, three of them to partner. Its commercial debt recovery team more than doubled in size, and the firm made several senior appointments in Teesside before opening a permanent base in Stockton in May 2026.
Awards and B Corp status
Muckle became a certified B Corp in its 2024 financial year, the first law firm in the North East to do so, according to its accounts. Its corporate team was named Corporate Law Firm of the Year at the North East Dealmakers Awards for the 10th time, and its real estate team was named Property Law Firm of the Year at the Insider North East Business Awards in May 2026. In September 2026 it was shortlisted for Firm of the Year: Regional at the Chambers UK Solicitor Awards 2026.
For owner-managed businesses, institutions and families across the region, the firm offers corporate, property and private client advice from three bases between Cumbria and Teesside. For more than 20 years it has given 1% of its annual profit to a charitable fund with the Community Foundation North East, which made grants of £61,435 to 27 charities in the year.
