Stewarts

Stewarts is a disputes firm. It brings and defends claims in commercial litigation, international arbitration, fraud and asset recovery, competition and securities litigation, tax disputes, employment, divorce and family, and trust and probate litigation. It also acts for injured people and their families in personal injury, international injury, aviation and medical negligence cases. It works from offices in London and Leeds.

The firm was founded in 1990 “with the aim of creating a law firm with a litigation bias”, according to its own account of its history, and later concentrated on high-value and complex disputes. Stuart Dench leads it as managing partner. The firm says it has more than 450 staff, including 97 partners.

Revenue up by a fifth

Stewarts Law LLP’s accounts for the year to 30 April 2025, filed at Companies House in November 2025, show revenue of £111.6m, up from £91.6m the year before, a rise of 22%. Work for overseas clients grew faster than the rest of the business: revenue from overseas rose from £27.8m to £37.3m, a third of the total. Profit available for division among members rose from £45.9m to £63.4m.

The average number of employees, excluding members, rose from 337 to 351. Of those, 234 were in client-facing roles and 117 in support services, and staff costs rose from £28.8m to £31.1m.

Ranked across its practice areas

The firm reports 23 Tier 1 rankings and 69 individual lawyer recognitions in the Legal 500 UK 2027 guide, and seven rankings in Chambers Global 2026. Its business services team is shortlisted for Business Services Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2026.

For businesses, investors and individuals facing a large claim, the firm offers a single practice built entirely around litigation and arbitration, with specialist teams on both commercial and personal disputes. Its Leeds office gives it a second base in the north of England alongside its headquarters at New Street Square in London.

The firm continues to add partners from within. Four lawyers were promoted to partner in its latest round of promotions, announced on 30 April 2026.
