Voiceworks drops SIP channel charges and bills partners on minutes
The Telford-based Enreach Group company is pitching SIP+ at resellers whose margin is tied up in trunk capacity they pay for whether or not it carries calls
- Parent: Enreach Group, which says it operates in more than 25 countries
- Enreach network: more than 7,000 partners and over 2.5 million business users, by the group’s own count
- Partner routes: introducer, dealer and wholesaler
- Platforms: Voiceworks says SIP+ works with a wide range of SIP-compatible phone systems and PBXs
Channel rental has been a fixed monthly line on a partner’s SIP bill. Under SIP+ the cost moves with traffic, so a partner’s margin depends on how it prices minutes to its own customers. Resellers carrying large estates of lightly used channels stand to gain most from the switch, while partners whose customers already fill most of their channels see less change. Suppliers still billing per channel may now face a direct price comparison at partner renewals.
“The channel has accepted SIP channel charges for a long time but accepted does not mean right.”Gareth Long, managing director, Voiceworks
Voiceworks launched SIP+ on 14 October, a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking offer that removes the charge for SIP channels. Partners pay instead for the minutes their customers use, on pay-as-you-go (PAYG), bundled or aggregated terms.
The company is aiming at the way much of the channel buys SIP today. On its product page, Voiceworks says most resellers purchase channels with minutes included, whether those minutes are used or not. Under SIP+ there is no minimum volume commitment, and Voiceworks says channel capacity is unlimited. Bundled minutes can be shared across a partner’s channels.
Partners can sell the service under their own brand, with Voiceworks behind the white label. The company says it will assess a partner’s existing channels, numbers and usage, help plan the migration and handle the move, and existing geographic numbers can be ported across. Voiceworks has published no prices: the savings calculator on its product page is labeled indicative, and final pricing is by quotation.
The Voiceworks brand is long established in its Dutch home market; the Telford business operates from Communications House at Hadley Park.
