Right · 100%next year we predict that growth will accelerate to around 10% we're expecting the market globally to be worth around $5.4 trillion
What happened. Gartner puts 2025 worldwide IT spending at about US$5.58 trillion, up 10.7% on 2024. Canalys itself had cut its own 2025 forecast to 7.0% growth (US$5.35 trillion) during 2025, and Edwards put the 2025 market at "around 5.3 trillion" in November 2025, so on his firm's narrower B2B measure growth looks nearer 7-8%. Independent data (Gartner) shows 2025 IT spending growth of 10.7%, within 10% of his ~10% call. Scope differs from Canalys's B2B market, and on Canalys/Omdia's own later figures growth came in lower (about 7-8%), which would make it Mostly right. Mostly right · 75%Nearly a third of marketplace purchases will flow through channel partners by 2025.
What happened. By late 2025 Omdia said over half of third-party marketplace spend still bypasses partners, implying a partner share somewhat below half; at Canalys Forum EMEA 2025 the firm said partners were expected to deliver more than half of a US$51bn marketplace. Either way the partner share in 2025 sat at or above a third. The call that partners would take a meaningful share against the 'marketplaces cut out the channel' consensus held, and the share likely exceeded a third; only the firm's own estimates exist and they are imprecise. Half right · 50%By 2025 they will account for approximately US$25 billion, 59 per cent CAGR from 2020.
What happened. Omdia (which absorbed Canalys) estimates third-party spending through the AWS, Google and Microsoft marketplaces at about US$45bn in 2025, up from US$30bn in 2024. Canalys itself had already doubled the 2025 forecast to over US$45bn by January 2023, with a colleague admitting "We under-called it". The direction (rapid marketplace growth) was right, but the specific number was about 45% too low; actual 2025 sales came in near US$45bn against a US$25bn call.
