Barracuda bundles AI governance into SecureEdge for MSPs
AI Data Security arrives in October at no extra cost in SecureEdge Premium Access, handing partners a ready-made AI governance service but perhaps little room to charge for the tool itself
- The tool runs on Barracuda’s BarracudaONE platform and its Barracuda IQ AI engine.
- Barracuda says sensitive data detection works with no initial configuration.
- The release cites IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach Report 2026, which it says found 68% of breached organizations lacked policies to manage AI or detect shadow AI.
- Barracuda says it is the first of several additions planned for its AI security portfolio.
SecureEdge Premium Access customers should enable the feature when it arrives and start by observing which AI tools staff use before setting blocking rules. Write or update an acceptable-use policy first, so enforcement has something to enforce. Organizations on other platforms can run the same discovery step with their existing web filtering or secure access tools. Ask Barracuda for independent test results on prompt-injection blocking before relying on it as a control.
“We need controls that are simple, scalable and built for real-world environments.”Geoff Turner, chief executive, Elevate Technology Group
Barracuda launched AI Data Security on 22 September, a tool it says tracks staff use of generative AI services, stops sensitive data being sent to them and logs interactions for auditors. It will be available in October 2026 and included in the SecureEdge Premium Access tier at no additional cost.
Barracuda says it covers more than 1,300 generative AI tools, including Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and inspects prompts and uploads in real time. It also says it blocks prompt injection and jailbreak attempts, with detection aligned to the Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) top 10 risks for large language models. Barracuda calls it the industry’s first AI security and governance product built for smaller organizations and MSPs, a claim its release doesn’t back with evidence.
For MSPs, it offers multitenant management, bundled pricing and firewall-style policy workflows, with set-up guided by Barracuda’s Bailey AI assistant. No standalone price was published.
Barracuda backs the launch with its own research, which it says shows nearly half of senior IT leaders believe their teams lack the skills to govern the AI already in use. The release gives no sample size or method.
